From Phoenix to San Diego - the journey continues...

Chris and I have been on the road for almost 2 weeks now. We have seen so much it’s becoming difficult to absorb everything.
We left Scottsdale on Monday morning, planning to travel to Tucson and spend the night before moving on to San Diego.
Well, sorry to all the Tucson fans, but Tucson definitely was a non-event in my book. We arrived, saw, turned the car around and headed straight for the I8 to San Diego.

The 7 hour trip to San Diego is an interesting one, with different landscapes, very much those that remind me of E.Cape and Swakopmund in Namibia.
It was getting late, so we stayed over in Yuma, a one-horse town, (where the horse had died), at a luxurious motel (not).

The next morning we hit the road bright and early, for the beaches of San Diego. When first arriving in San Diego, I was impressed on how neat and clean it was, with the pretty bays and beaches around Mission Beach. Lovely hot weather, not Phoenix hot but comfortable and clear blue sky’s made me feel as if I was on holiday.

There is tons to do and see in San Diego. The weather turned all rainy and overcast, so Chris and I decided to go and see the old USS Midway, a aircraft carrier which served in WW2 and other missions.
What an amazing afternoon, walking through all the nooks and crannies on the ship, getting to see how these men actually lived out at sea for months on end. Chris and I even got to experience an actual flight simulation, having to land an aircraft on a moving carrier at sea is NOT easy. It’s safe to say I will not be getting a part in TOP-GUN any time soon (well as a Pilot at least).
Taking the bridge over to Coronado Island makes you feel as if you are in another part of the world. Here everything is quaint and pretty, stunning beaches and it also hosts the US Naval Base. The only difference is, everything is triple the price!

We also went to our first Baseball game last night. The San Diego Padres played against the New York Mets at their home stadium, Petco Park. What an amazing evening!!! This massive stadium is downtown, and there are all these little restaurants and bars all around. Such a viby place especially on game evening.
I’m still trying to get the just of the game, it’s definitely not Rugby, but it’s fun, and the fans are great to watch.

Chris and I met up with Karin (sister-in-law of a friend of Chris’s). She’s been living here for the last several years, and it was great getting her advice and input in the housing market and lifestyle costs of San Diego.
Housing is much more expensive here than in Arizona, and after seeing a few places almost in the $1Mill range, I started understanding just how different California actually is.
She lives in La Jolla (pronounced, La Hoya). This place is the Californian version of Camps Bay,CPT. Stunning beaches, everyone is running, cycling, walking their dogs and has such a awesome vibe. Prices are also high, especially with next being the week of the US Masters at Torrey Pines, just down the road.

A cute little squirrel, they are all over net to the beach
